Chapter 5
In that Car
"Why did you suddenly stop being mad at me?"
Donglu initiated a conversation after driving away from the Wang Mansion for a while, but his girlfriend had been silent the entire way. Her beautiful face remained expressionless, without even a hint of a smile, though she had been cheerful just before, even linking arms with him to the car.
However, once settled in the car, she turned quiet, not willing to engage in any conversation.
Strange...
Is she still upset?
The young man's mind was buzzing with thoughts, worrying if he had done something wrong besides the minor argument they had the day before.
Did I just make another mistake?
Was there something Li Yin disliked that I accidentally did?
He rummaged through countless reasons to explain Li Yin's unusual behavior.
He tried to initiate conversation and even attempted to lighten the mood with some jokes, but the woman remained silent, focusing on typing on her phone. Her eyes swiftly scanned the text, fingers sliding rapidly across the screen, almost as if she was lost in the digital world.
She was ignoring him...
As for Li Yin, she wasn't concerned about how the person beside her felt or what was happening because she had more important matters to attend to, and if she didn't address them now, she wouldn't be at peace.
Impatient by nature, she wanted answers immediately, which included resolving the many questions in her mind.
If she remained in doubt, her heart would constantly itch.
Li Yin knew she had returned to when she was 22 years old, but beyond that, she had to delve into numerous memories. So, she was currently scrolling through the news to better understand the events happening at this time.
She needed to know how to proceed with her plans.
"Li Yin?"
Silence...
There was still no response.
Li Yin was engrossed in reading significant news that made her eyes widen, shutting herself off from hearing the surrounding noises. But now, she was beginning to grasp what was happening in the world around her at this time.
Eventually, Donglu, seeing Li Yin preoccupied with her phone, reached out to turn on some music in the car to lighten the atmosphere a bit. At least it wouldn't be too quiet until Li Yin seemed more relaxed, and the seriousness from staring at her phone screen had vanished. He then tried to initiate a conversation again.
"Will you talk to me, please?"
"Sure," the woman answered and then turned to look at her companion. "What is it? Hurry up and say it." Li Yin deliberately acted cold but with intention and reason.
She thought breaking up with him bluntly might not be the best approach, as he wouldn't be prepared to handle it, and then he might do everything to reconcile with her again, which would be annoying if he showed up at her house, standing at the door, or approached her father to force things. Plus, it seemed like giving Li Zhu an easier path to him.
No way...
Even if she intended to break up with Donglu, she didn't plan to let Li Zhu have her way.
So, she thought of being indifferent towards him a little every day, gradually hurting his feelings. Over time, the love someone like him had would naturally fade away. And by doing this, he would suffer like she had, without giving Li Zhu an easy chance to approach him.
This plan was simple and effortless.
Just being a daily destroyer of their happiness.
She would continue this plan of spinning his head until the time came to break up with him, ending this ridiculous love story. She could then move on to pursue greater things for herself.
Even though Donglu hadn't done anything wrong at this moment, this version of Li Yin was hurt, her heart filled with scars. She could no longer be kind and sweet.
It wasn't her fault she had become cruel.
Besides...
She chose the path that would cause him the least pain.
Let him suffer from her cold indifference a little each day; when the time came, it wouldn’t hurt him as much.
"Li Yin, the restaurant I'm taking you to today, you'll definitely like it."
"Why are you so sure I'll like it?"
"I don't know... Maybe because it’s got a nice atmosphere, warm lighting just how you love it."
"Oh."
Li Yin nonchalantly responded before continuing to deal with matters on her phone.
Seeing Li Yin focused on her phone, Donglu sneaked a glance to see what his girlfriend was doing, hoping he could find a topic to discuss with her.
Donglu glanced over for a moment before saying, "Studying stock investments?"
"Um."
"That explains it... You've been quiet for so long. Must be confusing, right? I’ve never seen you so invested in these things before," Donglu began to smile, finding something to talk about with his girlfriend. "I've studied these quite a bit, you know. Ask me anything, or I could manage it for you."
Li Yin looked at the man beside her.
Donglu was already proficient. She wouldn't deny that he could help her. Merely asking, he showed that he would take care of everything while she could just sit back and wait for the profits.
But…
Now she held the upper hand over him.
It was true she might not have studied these things as much as him, but she came from the future. She knew the trends for years ahead, read the news and pieced together stories in her head. Soon enough, she would get the hang of it. Now, she wasn't worried about risks.
She knew exactly where to invest.
"Thanks, but you know... We're competing, better not help me. Let's do it separately," said Li Yin with a smile. "How about this? Let's see who makes more profit this year."
"Competing in stocks?"
"Um... Let's start with a round figure of one million as the capital, short-term investments. Let's see who earns more in a year, and the loser has to do one thing for the winner."
"Li Yin..." Donglu laughed. "You always keep me surprised. Were you quiet all this time thinking of a way to beat me?"
"Yup, are you still not used to it?"
"Not surprised at all," said Donglu as he was about to reach out and ruffle her hair, but Li Yin swiftly dodged, not giving him a chane to touch her.
"So, do we have a deal?"
"Of course, we do. But let me just say, if you lose, you'll have to marry me, just so you know." He initiated then turned to smile at her. "I have more experience in this area than you. Why would you want to challenge me out of nowhere? Eh... or are you planning to lose on purpose so that you can marry me?"
Li Yin just chuckled in response.
Keep rambling on…
Your silly experience means nothing compared to mine. Plus... you have no idea what my request will be when I win.
Just wait for the suffering to hit.
